Star City Casino - Sydney 1997 Terrazzo Art floors in the northern entrance lobby of Casino
and the Lagoon Bar, including terrazzo bar top and cocktail tables Size 280 sq m approx Commissioned by Leighton Contractors through Landmark Entertainment Group (LA) and Cox Hillier Architects Sydney
Star City Casino is set on a site the size of seven football fields at Darling Harbour. The $1.2
billion complex caters for in excess of 20,000 visitors per day. It is one of Australia's premier entertainment venues. The Casino commissioned some of Australia's
top artists for the project, Colin Lanceley (ceiling in Lyric Theatre) John Olson (mosaics on the roof) and Michael Snape (sculptures) David Humphries was commissioned to create art
floors in terrazzo for the Casino's northern entrance lobby and the Lagoon Bar upstairs, including the terrazzo bar top and cocktail tables These dynamic floors and features are
reminiscent of an aerial view of the Australian landscape - 'river flowing through desert' and combine blending of ochres, golds, pinks and blue terrazzo inset with inlays of onyx, marble
and colorful mirrored glass in an organic and flowing environmental design. The gecko image used throughout the work fitted into the overall thematic concept developed by Los Angeles
based casino design specialists Landmark Entertainment Group.
